The other week I was browsing cnn.com while eating my lunch and came across the article about the women from California having octuplets. Like most people, especially those with children, I thought to myself, how is this women going to take care of 8 babies? I hope her husband has a good job and a lot of free time. I have since learned that:
1. This women has no husband
2. SHE ALREADY HAS 6 KIDS UNDER THE AGE OF 8 YEARS.
3. She lives with her PARENTS in a small ranch which they bought her last year and have since gone bankrupt and had to move in with her.
4. She doesn't work outside the home.
5. Her parents are elderly
6. She now has 14 children under the age of 8 and a mountian of medical bills which no doubt the people of California will be paying for her. 100K per day is the cost for the hospital care for all of them, you do the math.
I love children and it's said that this lady is in love with her children. Who isn't? But is bringing 8 babies born at 30 weeks with many potential physical and metal disabilities as well 6 others children to care for really necessary? Is it me, does anyone else see the moral issue here? I would love your input.
I found this article the other day, very interesting.

I've heard that the professional association for the fertility people has guidelines that only 2-3 embryos should be implanted at one time. If this is a case of a professional implanting her with these then they need to be held accountable, possibly lose their license.
The other thing I've heard is that it wasn't embryo implantation but that she was on pills and was inseminated, and when presented with the option to selectively reduce the babies, she refused. I don't know the whole story, but honestly, this woman sounds like a whack job. Who in their RIGHT MIND wants 14 children without a partner or any kind of support system? She has to be a wacko.
You know me, I'm OK with a lot of forms of government assistance, but in this case? I'm really uncomfortable with her behavior and the likelihood of us being asked to subsidize her extremely poor decision making. I feel so, so sorry for these children. It's not their fault, but they will pay the price in so many ways--lack of emotional support, lack of physical support, the extraordinary lifetime health issues that accompany babies who are born that early.
I have to ask, where were the medical professionals on this one?
I should clarify: I think the difference is that she deliberately created this circumstance, instead of it being a byproduct of a number of issues. Her situation was entirely voluntary and completely reckless. I'm not OK with supporting that.
I agree, she totally created this circumstance and is obviously a very selfish person. She says she loves babies, great. Lady, you've had 6 babies, count that a tremendous blessing and a tremendous amount of work. I will go as far to say that many of these children will be neglected in some way. It's very sad. She should adopt some of them out, for their sake.
I think the state of California will end up paying even more when they have to send her to the looney bin. Not to mention paying the foster parents that take her kids on while she gets well.
Who in their right mind wants 14 children under eight? Nobody, which leads me to believe this woman has some serious issues.
On an almost positive note, she can probably pimp her family out to TLC like Jon and Kate and the crazier Duggars.
I just read an article that said no major corporations are offering her assistance because they are afraid of being boycotted.
I'm not sure I'm ready to throw the woman to the dogs yet. Plus it's not the childrens' fault that they're mother is out of her damned mind, so that is kinda sad.
Also, it said she used to be employed in a mental facility. Thought that was kinda funny.
Jenny, I agree. The saddest part of this whole situation is that the children will suffer if she keeps all of them.
She's obviously delusional in her thinking and reckless in her actions. I hope there's a happy ending to this crazy story. The last thing this lady needs is endorsements and fame.
I read that she wants 2 million for pictures of the children, and she will probably get it. I wonder if this was her way of getting a stream of income. Sick.
Did I really use they're for their. Wow, I am obviously not sleeping enough at night.
Anne (or should I call you Martha), I really hope she doesn't.
Jenny, we all make mistakes :) Drink some Coke.
Great post much appreciate the time you took to write this.
